Hello From Down Under...

Posted by Darren Blade in "Windows Phone Thoughts Site Updates" @ 02:00 PM

Hello fellow Thoughts readers and Windows Phone champions!

For too long I have sat on the sideline (some ten years has passed by Jove!) following the news and opinions from whichever point of the compass I happened to be at. I now find myself compelled to enter the fray and put the proverbial pen where my mouth is. I am now one of the new Contributing Editors here at Windows Phone Thoughts, and my name is Darren Blade.

Over the years, I have posted a handful of times to the Thoughts site; you may find some of those musings of interest. My first Microsoft windows device was an HP 430SE. You may recall it was the device used by the character Dr. Christmas Jones to diffuse a nuclear bomb in the James Bond Movie "the world is not enough".

Based in New Zealand, I have my own coatings consultancy business, have worked in R&D on Li-ion Battery and Solar Cell Technology, as far afield as China, USA, Australia, Italy as well as here in my native New Zealand. You could say I have a little insight in the energy and coating sides of our great little workhorses.

As you can imagine I have a strong interest in the materials/components used and the function of our devices of choice. I am hoping this helps provide for some compelling thoughts around the Windows Phone Platform for you and at the very least, the start of some interesting discussions in the thoughts forums.

My pen is at the ready...

Excited to be Contributing to the Windows Phone Community!

Posted by Steven McPherson in "Windows Phone Thoughts Site Updates" @ 06:00 AM

Hello Windows Phone Thoughts Readers! My name is Steve McPherson (@stevenmc1060 on Twitter) and I will be working with the rest of the Windows Phone Thoughts Team as a Contributing Editor. I'm REALLY excited to be here and share my passion with our readers and I'm incredibly proud to be part of a team that has contributed in shaping the Microsoft Mobile platform and Community over the years.

My technical and business background is fairly diverse in that I've held both Sales and Technical roles for companies such as Microsoft, EDS, NET and Interim Technologies. In these roles I have always championed mobile technology as part of my "night job" and look forward to formally adding value to the Windows Phone Community.

I currently work for a company called Network Equipment Technologies (NET) and we manufacturer VOIP gateways which are "purpose built" for Microsoft UC. As part of this role, I find myself evangelizing Microsoft's Voice platform which tends to bleed over into Windows Phone through discussions with customers who have questions around enterprise mobility and unified communications.

As a Contributing Editor, my focus will be to share with you a new voice in your daily reads. My hope is that the information I provide will be valuable to you as a user and a technologist. To that end, I hope that the news and views I share will translate to increased passion for the Windows Phone platform for you, our reader and enable you to share that passion with your friends and colleagues.

I'm looking forward to a productive dialog with our community and sharing the passion that I have for Mobile technology.

An Investor’s Perspective on the Mobile Marketplace

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone Thoughts Site Updates" @ 12:00 PM

Hello Windows Phone Thoughts readers! My name is Adan Galvan and I am a new Contributing Editor. In my day job, I’m an equity analyst for a small investment management company in Chicago, IL. As such, I’ve been able to closely track the developments in the marketplace from a unique perspective of seeing these companies not just as distributors of amazing technology, but as potential investments for my clients.

Over the last decade, the technology world saw amazing growth and change as the trend moved towards smaller, faster, more powerful devices. All of the major players have scrambled to compete with the largest and most influential company, Apple. RIM, Nokia, Palm, and of course Microsoft have had to adjust strategies and products to cater to a decade in which consumer focus has become the meme. As an equity analyst, I’ve marveled at the pace of innovation and the developments in the marketplace.

As a consumer, I’ve salivated at the new gadgets and wondered how I could possibly afford them all. As a new Contributing Editor for Windows Phone Thoughts, I hope to share some news and opinions, and to foster some conversations on Microsoft’s mobile strategy and products. Although I won't be giving recommendations on these companies, I look forward to the opportunity to discuss the future and strategies of Microsoft as it pertains to the mobile world.

We've Come a Long Way Since Car Phones!

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Thoughts Site Updates" @ 12:00 PM

Hello readers! If you're on this site you're either a Windows Phone enthusiast, a smartphone aficionado, interested in understanding where Microsoft is taking this platform (or is that "platforms"?), or stumbled across the site while surfing. In any of these cases, I would like to introduce myself as a new Contributing Editor for Windows Phone Thoughts. I have been frequenting this site for some time, and have found it to be informative and insightful, two characteristics I hope to continue with my writings and analysis.

My first mobile phone was a car phone in an HP company car, way back around 1995, and I've been intrigued with mobile phones ever since. Do you remember that first feeling of awe as you made your first phone call not in a phone booth or not from your land line in your house or office? Fifteen years later I still see lots of room for innovation in this wonderful communication technology, and, if you're like me, you love to track the developments and to experience the benefits. I have been working in the technology field for 25 years, as a software developer, systems engineer, architect, process consultant and for the past 10 years as a management consultant. I'm interested in both the consumer and business application of technology, and will endeavour to bring both perspectives to this site. I'm looking forward to some lively discussions, so please join in as we follow this marketplace and the technologies that pervade it.

Greetings From New Contributing Editor, Eriq Cook

Posted by Eriq Cook in "Windows Phone Announcements" @ 11:30 AM

Hello everyone! I'm Eriq Cook and I have volunteered as a new Contributing Editor for Windows Phone Thoughts. I'm a long time "Thoughts" reader, technology enthusiast/gadget-head and Windows Mobile user since my first Phillips Nino Palm-size PC (wow).

I currently own and run TEQ Media, a web design and development firm full time, and also provide computer/I.T. consulting part-time (side business). I am recently married and reside in the Denver Tech Center, Colorado. When I'm not working (or playing) with tech, I enjoy hanging out with family and friends, taking short trips or just enjoying Colorado. :-)

I expressed interest in joining the team not only because of my passion for technology in general, but also because of my passion and experience in writing reviews and articles on mobile technologies for various media outlets for a few years. So I feel right at home contributing to the team, sharing my thoughts and doing what I enjoy! I'm happy to be here as part of the team after being a long-time reader, and I look forward to interacting with everyone more in the discussion forums. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Linkedin or twitter (teqman or teqmedia).
